GreenPower
NC GreenPower is an independent, nonprofit organization established to improve North
Carolina’s environment through voluntary contributions toward renewable energy. A landmark
initiative approved by the N.C. Utilities Commission, NC GreenPower is the first statewide
green energy program in the nation supported by all the state’s utilities and administered
independently by a nonprofit organization.

agency” only for this program.
The NC GreenPower program offers two green energy alternatives to North Carolinians.
- The first "product" is geared to residential and small commercial users.
It allows them to buy one or more blocks of energy with each block equaling 100 kilowatt-hours of energy for $4 more on their electric bills. These blocks of energy are produced from wind, solar or biomass sources.
- The second "product" is being marketed to commercial and industrial users.
Commercial and industrial consumers will pay $2.50 more per block of 100 kilowatt-hours, with a minimum purchase requirement of 100 blocks.
