Piedmont Electric Awards
Scholarships to Local Students
HILLSBOROUGH, N.C., June 16, 2009—Four area high school seniors have been chosen to receive the first scholarships sponsored by Piedmont Electric Membership Corporation.
Each will receive a $500 college scholarship. Selection was based on academic achievement, extracurricular activities and an essay on their electric cooperative.
The winners, selected by a panel of independent judges, include:

Brandy Buchanan, a recent graduate of J. F. Webb High School in Oxford, is the daughter of Randy and Brenda Buchanan of Bullock. She plans to attend UNC-Chapel Hill.

Richard (Neill) Bullock, the son of Walter and Rebecca Bullock of Hillsborough, graduated from Cedar Ridge High School in Hillsborough, and plans to attend UNC-Chapel Hill.
Adam Mincey, a recent Orange High School graduate in Hillsborough, is the son of Nick and Kendall Mincey of Hurdle Mills. He will attend Mars Hill College.

Martha Stone, the daughter of Jack and Rhonda Stone of Timberlake, is a recent graduate of Person High School in Roxboro. Her college plans are to attend UNC-CH.
All students reside in homes served by Piedmont Electric.
This is the first year the Cooperative has offered academic scholarships. Selection was based on academics and extracurricular activities. Students also submitted essays in addition to formal applications.
“We’re proud to offer scholarships to these outstanding students, and we wish them great success in their future endeavors,” says R.G. Brecheisen, president and CEO of Piedmont Electric.
Piedmont Electric, which is a Touchstone Energy Cooperative based in Hillsborough, is a nonprofit electric utility serving 31,000 consumers in parts of Alamance, Caswell, Durham, Granville, Orange and Person counties.
