As the Year Draws to an End…
It’s hard to believe we’re already near the end of another year—and what a year it has been.
“Change” has been the buzz word, not only in politics, but in the area of energy. We’ve seen our energy futures ride the ups and downs of a roller coaster on the transmission grid as well as at the gas pump.In the last few months we’ve asked you, our member-owners, to pitch in to keep our elected officials better informed about legislative issues which affect the price of energy.
This nationwide campaign has just reached a milestone with more than one million consumers served by electric cooperatives contacting their legislators through the “Our Energy, Our Future” initiative.During the coming year we expect many energy-related issues to come before Congress, making your help in contacting your legislative representatives even more important. With many of us struggling through these tough economic times we may overlook those in our own communities who need help.
Through the “Helping Hand” program, Piedmont Electric members have the opportunity to help fellow members in crisis situations. The money collected is used to help with heating bills—regardless of the type of fuel the recipients use.
Contributions are distributed by the Departments of Social Services in the respective counties served by Piedmont Electric.
To volunteer to donate, members only need to complete a sign-up card available from the Cooperative’s offices or request one through the mail. Members may choose to make a one-time donation; have a set amount added to their monthly electric bills, or have their monthly bills rounded up to the next dollar with the additional money going to the “Helping Hand” fund.

As we enter into this special time of the year, it would be remiss of me not to offer my thanks to all of Piedmont Electric’s members. We will continue to work to provide you with reliable service at a competitive cost.
And, to the Cooperative’s employees, I give my gratitude for their outstanding commitment to their jobs.
May each of you have a blessed Christmas season, and a healthy and prosperous New Year. |
