Touchstone Energy House
Piedmont Electric has teamed up with Advanced Energy Corporation and local contractors
to build energy-efficient homes.
The guidelines for building the Touchstone Energy® Environments for Living® Home for
maximum efficiency includes tight construction, pressure balancing, interior moisture management,
improved thermal systems, fresh air ventilation and “right-sized” HVAC equipment.
The insulation values are R-38 in the ceiling, R-19 in the floors and R-13 in the walls. The
home uses Low-E glass windows which have higher R-values, and all exterior doors are insulated.
The tight construction design prohibits air infiltration and features sealed crawl spaces.
Not only is the building criteria designed for energy efficiency, but the features combine to
promote reduced indoor contaminants, dust and odors.
